Helping the Yolo Crisis Nursery

There are many ways to help that don’t involve dipping into your wallet.

If you have time on your hands and a desire to give back to the community, we can find a spot for you.

Please check out the opportunities below. We’ll look forward to hearing from you: Just call us at 530-758-6680.

Volunteer at the Yolo Crisis Nursery

We offer opportunities for volunteers to work directly with the children in our care, providing additional support to the Nursery staff. It’s wonderful and rewarding to hold the babies, and you never have to change diapers!

There are, however, a few things to know:

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must be able to commit to a year of volunteering two hours a week.
  • You must pass a screening process that includes finger-printing and a TB test.
  • You must complete 16 hours of training.

To learn more or apply to become a volunteer, please email Executive Director Heather Sleuter at

Join the Yolo Crisis Nursery Board of Directors

A well-functioning Board of Directors is not only essential to meeting our legal requirements but also essential to helping Yolo Crisis Nursery Inc. continue to grow. If you can contribute your time, thoughtfulness, and leadership one Tuesday evening a month, and are interested in exploring this opportunity, please send an email expressing your interest to

We also have some openings on board committees. Learn more about our organization and our Board of Directors on our About Us page.

All community members are invited to join our auxiliary group, the Friends of the Yolo Crisis Nursery. This special group of volunteers focuses on fund-raising and outreach. They meet once a month, usually the second Tuesday from 5:30-7 pm.

The Friends stage an annual crab feed to raise funds for the Nursery. The next event will be March 16, 2019, at the Woodland Community & Senior Center. To learn more about Friends, contact them at
