Yolo Crisis Nursery: Help support a critical resource

For 25 years, Yolo Crisis Nursery has been there when local families have nowhere else to turn.
Today, one of the most important programs we provide is at risk.
Government funding for our Safe Stay Respite Care program has been cut by 50%, leaving a significant funding gap for a program designed to protect young children during some of the most difficult moments their families will face.
This October, Clark Pacific and the L5 Investments Capital Cup Golf Tournament are stepping forward to help protect Safe Stay Respite Care, and we are asking our community to join them.
Taking place October 23 -25, the Capital Cup is a three-day charity golf tournament that brings together business leaders from across the Sacramento region to raise funds for local nonprofits. Each golfer selects an organization to represent and rallies their network of colleagues, businesses, friends and community members to support their fundraising campaign. The funds raised by each golfer go directly to their chosen nonprofit, turning three days of friendly competition into meaningful support for organizations throughout our region.
This year, Doug Bevier, Executive Director of Development at Clark Pacific, will take the course for the first time on behalf of Yolo Crisis Nursery, raising critical funds to help protect our Safe Stay Respite Care program.
For Doug, the reason for supporting the Nursery is simple.
“Strong communities start with strong families,” Doug said. “Children deserve a safe and stable environment, and parents sometimes need support to get through a difficult moment. If we have the ability to help provide that support and make a meaningful difference for a family, I believe we should.”
Those difficult moments are exactly why Safe Stay Respite Care exists.
The program provides free, voluntary care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for up to 30 days within a 6 month period for children from birth through age five when their parents are temporarily unable to provide safe care. Children receive a safe place to sleep, meals, nurturing care and support from trained caregivers while their parents work through the circumstances facing their family.
A parent might be escaping domestic violence, facing a medical emergency or hospitalization, experiencing homelessness, struggling with mental health challenges, recovering from substance use, or simply feeling overwhelmed and needing a safe place for their child while they regain stability.
Whatever brings a family to our door, our goal is the same: protect the child and support the parent before the situation becomes more serious.
This is why the loss of government funding is so concerning.
Safe Stay Respite Care is at the heart of our child abuse prevention work. It gives parents another option during a difficult moment. It gives a young child somewhere safe to go. And it gives our team an opportunity to work alongside a family and connect them with resources and support.
Now, we need our community to help make sure this program is still here for the next parent who calls.
Doug understands how immediate the impact of the Nursery’s work is.
“What stood out to me was how practical and immediate the Nursery’s impact is,” he said. “You’re helping families at a moment when they truly need it, providing children with a safe place while giving parents the time and resources they need to address a crisis and get back on their feet. That kind of early support can change the trajectory for an entire family.”
Clark Pacific has supported Yolo Crisis Nursery for years through fundraising, sponsorships, volunteer efforts and community partnerships. Through the Capital Cup, the company is once again bringing its employees, vendors, business partners and community together to help children and families.
Every dollar raised through Doug’s Capital Cup campaign will help us address the funding gap and protect the services families depend on.
“I hope it allows the Nursery to continue being there when families need it most and to reach even more families in our community,” Doug said. “The donations raised can translate directly into more resources, more support, and ultimately better outcomes for children and their families.”
The need comes at a pivotal time for Yolo Crisis Nursery.
Our new Nursery was built so we could serve more children, provide more families with support and meet the growing needs of our community. Yet having the space to care for more children is only part of the equation. We also need funding for the trauma-trained caregivers, food, diapers, formula, transportation and around-the-clock support required to keep Safe Stay Respite Care available.
A $100 donation provides one Safe Stay, giving a child a safe place to sleep while their parent finds housing, seeks treatment, addresses an emergency, or takes an important step toward stability. This is early intervention when a family needs it most.
We are deeply grateful to Doug, Clark Pacific, L5 Capital Cup and every donor who has already chosen to stand with the Nursery.
For 25 years, our community has stood beside Yolo Crisis Nursery and helped us be there for children and families when they need us most. Today, we need your help once again.
Please consider making a donation through this year’s Capital Cup fundraiser to help protect Safe Stay Respite Care. Every gift helps ensure that when a parent finds the courage to reach out for help, we are there to provide a safe place for their child and support for their family.
